NoldorMíriel Serindë was the first wife of Finwë and the mother of Fëanor, the most skilled needleworker among the Noldor. Worn out by the birth of her son, she chose to release her spirit to Mandos and refused ever to return, and her death opened the rift in the house of Finwë.

LongbeardsNáin, son of Grór and father of Dáin Ironfoot, was Lord of the Iron Hills. He brought fresh forces to the Battle of Azanulbizar in T.A. 2799, fought his way to the gate of Moria, and was slain there by Azog before his son avenged him.

Nerdanel, daughter of the smith Mahtan, was the wife of Fëanor and the mother of his seven sons. A sculptor of great skill and a woman of patience and judgement, she alone could restrain her husband for a time; she parted from him before the flight of the Noldor and remained in Aman.

SindarNimloth, a Sindarin lady of the royal house of Doriath and kinswoman of Celeborn, married Dior, the son of Beren and Lúthien, and was the mother of Eluréd, Elurín and Elwing. She was slain with her husband when the sons of Fëanor sacked Menegroth in the Second Kinslaying.

Nori was one of the thirteen Dwarves of Thorin Oakenshield's company on the quest of Erebor, arriving at Bag End in a purple hood with his kinsmen Dori and Ori. He survived the Battle of Five Armies and lived at the Mountain afterward.

Óin, elder brother of Glóin and uncle of Gimli, was one of Thorin's companions on the quest of Erebor. He later followed Balin to Moria and was taken by the Watcher in the Water at the West-gate when the colony fell.

Ori, kinsman of Dori and Nori, was one of Thorin's thirteen companions on the quest of Erebor. He went with Balin to Moria in T.A. 2989 and wrote the final page of the Book of Mazarbul before dying with the last of the colony beside Balin's tomb.

SindarSaeros was an Elf of Doriath, one of Thingol's counsellors, who envied Túrin the king's favour and mocked him and the women of his people at the king's table. His taunts and the ambush he set the next morning ended with his own death in the gorge of the Esgalduin, and drove Túrin out of Doriath into outlawry.

MaiarSalmar is a Maia of Ulmo who made the Ulumúri, the great horns of white shell whose music, once heard, is never forgotten and leaves a lasting longing for the Sea. He is otherwise unrecorded in the published histories.

Skinbark, Fladrif in the Elvish tongue, is one of the three eldest Ents of Fangorn, who dwelt on the mountain slopes west of Isengard until Saruman's Orcs wounded him and felled his trees, after which he withdrew among the high birches and would not come down.

Snaga was a small Orc of the garrison of Cirith Ungol, one of the few survivors of the fight between Shagrat's and Gorbag's companies. He refused Shagrat's order to carry news to Barad-dûr, and died falling through the trapdoor of the topmost chamber when Sam attacked him as he whipped Frodo.
Mordor - Mearas
The white horse of King Théoden of Rohan, who carried him from Edoras to Helm's Deep and on to the Pelennor Fields. Struck by a dart of the Witch-king, he fell and crushed his master beneath him, and was buried on the field under a mound that stayed green ever after.
Rohan - Hobbits
Ted Sandyman, the miller's son of Hobbiton, was the sceptic who jeered at Sam's tales of walking trees in the Green Dragon and later the collaborator who worked the ruffians' new mill that fouled the Water. He is the Shire's example of the hobbit who welcomed the Troubles.

Men of Dale and EsgarothThe unnamed Master of Lake-town was the elected ruler of Esgaroth when Thorin's company came in 2941. A shrewd trader with no taste for old songs or heroics, he fled when Smaug attacked, blamed the Dwarves afterwards, and finally absconded with gold given for the town's rebuilding and died in the Waste.

An ancient thrush of the Lonely Mountain whose snail-cracking on the doorstep marked the keyhole of the secret door on Durin's Day, and who carried Bilbo's account of Smaug's bare patch to Bard in Lake-town, so that the Black Arrow found its mark.

LongbeardsThorin I, son of Thráin I, was the second King under the Mountain. In T.A. 2210 he led most of Durin's Folk from Erebor to the richer Grey Mountains in the north, where they prospered until the dragons drove them out.
