Anfalas

West of Belfalas the coast of Gondor ran on for many leagues in a long, low shore, the Anfalas or Langstrand, between the mouth of the Morthond and the river Lefnui, beyond which lay the wild and empty country of the far west. Behind the shore rose the green hills of Pinnath Gelin, and behind them the western White Mountains. It was the remotest of Gondor's fiefs, far from the capital and the Anduin, and its people were few: herdsmen, hunters and fishermen of the old coastal stock, with little of Númenor in them and less of Gondor's wealth. The Rohirrim and the men of Minas Tirith knew the Langstrand by name rather than by sight.

Anfalas belonged to Gondor from the founding of the realm but was never populous or important. It suffered from the Corsairs of Umbar, whose raids reached the western coasts in the Long Winter of T.A. 2758 and at other times. In March 3019 its lord Golasgil answered the Steward's summons and led his men to Minas Tirith; the people of the city watching from the Gate saw a long, straggling line of ill-equipped men, and understood how little the far fiefs could spare with the Corsair fleet threatening their own shores. Hirluin the Fair from the neighbouring Pinnath Gelin came with three hundred and died on the Pelennor. After the war Anfalas remained a quiet corner of the Reunited Kingdom.

Anfalas lay along the south-western coast of Gondor from the Morthond in the east to the Lefnui in the west, with the Pinnath Gelin inland to the north-east. Beyond the Lefnui lay the cape of Andrast and, northward, Enedwaith.
