Lebennin

Between the southern slopes of the White Mountains and the sea, west of the lower Anduin, lay Lebennin, the land of five rivers. The Erui, Sirith, Celos, Serni and Gilrain came down from the mountains through green lowlands to the Bay of Belfalas, and between them lay some of the richest farmland in Gondor. The great haven of Pelargir stood on the Anduin at the region's eastern edge, and the Ethir Anduin, the many-channelled delta of the river, formed its coast. The people of Lebennin were shorter and darker than the Dúnedain, being largely of the old stock of the coastlands with Númenórean blood mixed in, but they were steadfast, and their lords held the southern fiefs.

Lebennin was the scene of the last battle of the Kin-strife: in T.A. 1447 Eldacar defeated and killed the usurper Castamir at the Crossings of Erui, and the rebels fled to Pelargir. The land was exposed to raids from Umbar whenever the Corsairs were strong. In the War of the Ring the threat of the Corsair fleet kept most of Lebennin's men at home, so that their lords sent only a fraction of their strength to Minas Tirith. On March 9 to 13, 3019 Aragorn and the Grey Company rode through Lamedon and across Lebennin with the Shadow Host at their backs, and the folk of the land fled before the Dead. At Pelargir the Corsairs were routed and Aragorn released the Dead; then the men of Lebennin and Lamedon, freed from fear, crewed the captured ships and rowed up Anduin to the Harlond, arriving on the Pelennor Fields on March 15. After the war Lebennin prospered in the peace of the Reunited Kingdom.

Lebennin was bounded by the White Mountains on the north, the Anduin on the east, the Bay of Belfalas on the south and the Gilrain on the west, beyond which lay Belfalas. Lossarnach lay in the mountain-valleys to its north-east near Minas Tirith, and Lamedon to its north-west.
